Guest Design Team Post - Laura Sterckx! ✮✮ Giveaway CLOSED ✮✮

Hello everyone!

It's Laura Sterckx here from makingcardsisfun.com. I am thrilled to be doing a guest post for WOW! since they are close to my heart. I have worked with the WOW products for a couple of years now and I simply love them! :)

In today's post I am sharing two cards and two videos! In the first video I am creating a modern card using the Flights of Fancy stamp set along with some white and clear embossing powder.

Hello Card Video

The Flights of Fancy set is simply stunning. I love the versatility of this set since you can use these images as feathers and leaves. First I heat embossed the leaves/feathers using white embossing powder. The Opaque Bright White embossing powder is my favorite one, by the way. After heat setting the powder, I did some simple masking with painters tape. I chose a modern color scheme and sticked to pinkpurple and mint. I like to use Distress Inks for the blending but regular dye ink works great as well!

For my second card and video, I created a non-traditional holiday card using soft pinks and mint colors. The Let it Snow stamp set from WOW along with Sugar Plum embossing powder makes it easy!

Merry Christmas Card Video

I started out by creating a snowy background using the Let it Snow stamp set and the beautiful Sugar Plum embossing powderThe Sugar Plum embossing powder is so pretty and cute! It's light pink and it has silver glitters in it, too! Since this is a Christmas card, I needed some fun trees. I foiled the trees using Silver Fab Foil and Bonding Powder. I did that a bit off screen in the video (I'm so sorry about that!) so I promised to link to a video where I'm doing the same technique. Click HERE to check out that video. Again, I'm sorry!

Before I go I wanted to let you know that there's a GIVEAWAY! Simply leave a comment here and on my blog post (click HERE to go to the same blog post on my own blog) by Sunday, September 27 at 11:59 pm UK time. You can win the Let it Snow + Flights of Fancy stamp set AND the Black Glint + Sugar Plum embossing powder AND the Bonding Powder + Silver Fab Foil. :) WOOHOO! Good luck!

That's it for now! A big thanks to Tania for having me as a guest designer. Happy embossing! :)

  5. CONGRATULATIONS Laura!!!
I LOVE your STYLE and it is WONDERFUL to see you here :)
DELIGHTFUL cards - BOTH are BEAUTIFUL designs and such lovely colours!!!
Your Sugar Plum / Cracked Pistachio makes for a GORGEOUS Christmas, LOVE the colour combo, LOVE the SPARKLE and LOVE the background, your vellum sentiment really POPS too, so I really should say that I LOVE IT ALL!!!
I really enjoyed your videos too, learnt a lot along the way => THANK YOU :)
Some of the clever ideas that struck a chord for me today included the dryer sheets with your sentiment die cutting then heat embossing (I confess I was surprised they didn't stay stuck in there); tapping off your sentiment before adhering in place (I struggle with the little globs oozing out); bonding powder + foil, EXCITING to see you were able to blend over the foiled edges; watercolour paper for distress ink blending, COOL, that might be why I struggle with getting a good blend, will definitely try it next time; extra heat for the glitter embossing powder, I didn't consider that the glitter might rub off it it wasn't complete, no-one had mentioned it to me so I will ask how my previous cards have survived the mail!!!
THANK YOU for the CREATIVE INSPIRATION and the chance to win too :)

  25. Both of the cards are gorgeous!
I especially love the way you created the background with some areas highlighted on the first card. I have fallen in love with that beauty.
It's the sort of card that would be very expensive to purchase as it would be a one off at an expensive boutique shop. Your Christmas card is also fabulously gorgeous!
The leaves are at the top of my WOW stamps wish list and they are closely followed by the snowy background as that is a stamp that would be great for creating inky backgrounds as well as using it for snow.
I can visualise the snow stamp being used with Distress inks, spraying the stamping with water and hey presto a quick and easy beautifully distressed background. I adore stamps that can be used in more than one way and that are ideal for men and girls. Both of these stamps beautiful and so versatile.
Thank you for sharing your technique and gorgeous classy cards with us. Huge thanks to you and WOW EP for the chance to win some lovely goodies! Karen x
